Sekharipuram is arguably the oldest of all the eighteen villages in palakkad town. History indicates that several hundred years ago a large number of Tamil Brahmins from Tanjore, Trichy & Kumbakonam migrated via Madurai & Pollachi and settled in Palakkad and established the 108 Agraharams in whole District out of which 18 are in Palakkad town. Each of these villages has a temple as the nucleus and several streets comprising of row houses with common walls for adjacent houses (Not the present day villas with compound walls etc) The 'Sit out' of all these houses (Thinnai) were all open probably for easy access to help the neighbours and for people and visitors coming from outside to take rest while on travel.

The beauty and uniqueness of Sekharipuram village is that during processions the deity is taken around the village in a circle and the deity is never turned 180 degree unlike in other villages and it is believed that the migrant brahmins installed Lord Krishna as the main deity.

Sekharipuram Agraharam consists of five big streets with five important temples. The main temple is that of the presiding deity Lord Lakshminarayana with Bhooma Devi and Lakshmi Devi. Other temples are those of Lord, Mahaganapathy, Lord Hariharaputhra, Lord Siva, and Godess Emoor Bagavathy.

Our village boasts of a very long list of great scholars and personalities very popular at the national and international levels.

The temples of the agraharam derive their authority from various Agamas and the idols of these temples are sanctified through repeated recitals of vedic-huymms by acharyas who strictly adhere to the prescribed norms like Niyama, Achara and Dhyaana. They invoke the presence of deities in their hearts - prana prathishta - through their prenance and chanting of vedic mantras. The acharyas perform all the poojas and rituals in appropriate ways for the welfare of all the members of the village and all the worshipping public at large uploading the adage 'Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavanthu'. Hence these temples are considered as a religious institution for imparting spiritual education.
